In order to increase the internationalization of studies and to attract bright young foreign students to Lithuania, the state allocates scholarships for foreigners for graduate study programs. 70 graduate students from seven countries will receive financial support for studies in Lithuania in 2017.

„We live in a global world, so we must motivate international brain exchange in all possible ways. Attracting Master’s students from abroad increases the internationalization of studies. This way Lithuanian higher education institutions become more visible in the global study environment, and that is exceptionally important while attracting as many gifted foreign students as possible to study in our country“, says Jurgita Petrauskienė, the Minister of Education and Science.

Out of the 70 available scholarships for Master’s studies, 40 will be allocated to students from Ukraine this year. Students from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, China, Japan, and Moldova also received financial support for studying in Lithuania.

Most foreign students chose Master’s study programmes at Mykolas Romeris University – 22, and Vilnius University – 20. 10 Master’s students chose Vytautas Magnus University, 7 – Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, 6 – Kaunas University of Technology. The most popular disciplines are law and management, as well as engineering studies. Eight graduate students from Georgia and Ukraine chose to study in Lithuanian language.
Students from 10 countries, as well as foreigners of Lithuanian descent who live outside the European Economic Area could participate in the contest for financial support for the Master’s study this year. Japanese, South Korean and Israeli citizens were eligible for the first time.

During the selection process, each candidate was evaluated on the basis of their bachelor's studies results, their knowledge of the language, their motivation to study in Lithuania and the recommendations they submitted.

Two types of support are offered to foreigners from the Third World Countries who were accepted to Lithuanian higher education institutions for Master’s studies – a tuition fee and a scholarship.
